Set up your camera

Phone side-on to you, where point would stand, about 4 metres away at hip height. Shadow bat: no ball needed.

Your whole body, head to feet, needs to be in the picture. The coach will remind you if it can't see you.

How to do it

  1. 1Start in your stance and lift your bat towards your back shoulder.
  2. 2Imagine a ball landing just in front of you.
  3. 3Take a big step towards it and bend your front knee.
  4. 4Lean forward so your head is over your front knee.
  5. 5Bring the bat down beside your front leg and stop it there.

What the coach watches for

  • Lift your bat

Your backlift was low. Pick the bat up towards your back shoulder before you play.

  • Head over your front knee

Your head was hanging back. Lead with your head so it's over your front knee.

  • Bend your front knee

Your front leg stayed straight. Bend that knee and lean into the shot.

  • Bigger stride

Your stride was short. Step right out to where the ball pitches.

  • No follow-through

Defence should stop the ball dead. Soft hands, and keep the bat down by your pad.
