Privacy policy

How MoveTutor handles your camera, your training data and children's privacy.

Last updated 24 October 2026. Draft: to be reviewed by a lawyer before MoveTutor launches.

1. The short version

Your camera video stays on your device. MoveTutor tracks your body on your phone or computer and never uploads or saves the video.

After each attempt, a short text description of what happened (for example “squat too shallow, chest leaned forward”) is sent to our AI coach so it can explain the fix. No pictures are sent.

Pictures are only sent if an adult turns on Live Coach and agrees to it. Live Coach is never available to players under 18.

We don't sell your data, show ads, or use your training to profile you.

2. What happens to your camera

Body and ball tracking run on your device using Google's MediaPipe library. The camera picture is processed in your browser and thrown away straight after.

MediaPipe may send Google anonymous performance statistics about how the library runs (not your camera pictures), as described in Google's privacy policy.

The slow-motion replay is drawn from the tracked body points only. No video is recorded.

3. What is sent to the AI coach

Smart Coach: after an attempt with a mistake, MoveTutor sends the skill name, the mistakes found, your recent scores and a few body measurements (like knee angle) to OpenAI, which writes the tip you hear. No pictures, names or contact details are included.

Live Coach (adults only, off by default): while it's switched on, a small picture from your camera is sent to OpenAI about once a second so it can coach you live. MoveTutor doesn't store these pictures. You can switch Live Coach off at any time.

Session reports and weekly plans: your session scores, mistakes and dates are sent to OpenAI to write the report or plan.

OpenAI processes this data to provide the service under its API terms, which say API data isn't used to train its models by default.

4. Your account

You need an account to train. It holds your first name, email, a securely hashed password, your age group, your plan and how many free sessions you've used.

Your training history (skill, date, reps, form score and the main mistake for each session) and your latest weekly plan are saved to your account so they follow you to any device.

Accounts and training data are stored on our own server (a self-hosted Appwrite database). Only MoveTutor's server can read them; other players can't.

On your device we only keep your colour theme, your camera choice and whether you've agreed to Live Coach.

5. Children

MoveTutor is for players aged 8 and up. Players under 18 need a parent or guardian to agree before training.

For under-18s, no pictures ever leave the device: Live Coach is switched off and can't be turned on. Under 16, weight-lifting skills are hidden.

A parent or guardian agrees from a private link their child shares with them. The link shows what MoveTutor does and this week's training, and the parent can switch MoveTutor off for their child from it at any time.

We store the parent's name and the date they agreed. If you're a parent and want your child's account and data deleted, contact us and we'll remove it.

6. Hosting and logs

MoveTutor is hosted on Vercel, and accounts are stored on our Appwrite server. Like any website, these keep short-lived technical logs (such as IP address and pages requested) to run and protect the service.

7. Changes and contact

If we change how MoveTutor handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and ask again where the law requires it.

Questions or requests: a contact email will be added here before launch.
