Off-spin

Turn the ball with your first finger, pivoting hard on your front foot.

Set up your camera

Phone side-on to your delivery stride, about 5 metres away, so it sees you from gather to follow-through. Shadow bowl: no ball needed.

Your whole body, head to feet, needs to be in the picture. The coach will remind you if it can't see you.

How to do it

  1. 1Make the grip: first two fingers spread wide, thumb resting lightly.
  2. 2Take a few short steps in and land side-on.
  3. 3Pivot hard on your front foot as you bowl.
  4. 4Keep your arm high and straight, and turn your first finger like a door handle.
  5. 5Follow through, letting your body spin round after the ball.

What the coach watches for

  • Keep your arm straight

Your bowling arm bent and straightened. Keep it straight through the delivery so your action is legal.

  • High arm

Your arm came round low. Bowl with a high arm, brushing past your ear.

  • Follow through

You stopped after releasing. Let your body follow through, bowling arm sweeping across.
