Set up your camera

Phone at hip height, about 3 metres away, filming you from the side. Keep the ball in the picture too.

Your whole body, head to feet, needs to be in the picture. The coach will remind you if it can't see you.

How to do it

  1. 1Drive towards the hoop.
  2. 2Bend your knees and jump a little earlier than for a layup.
  3. 3Lift the ball high with one hand, arm straight.
  4. 4Release it early with a soft, high arc.
  5. 5Hold the follow-through as the ball drops into the hoop.

What the coach watches for

  • Bend your knees

You shot with straight legs. Dip your knees and push up, because the power comes from your legs.

  • Straighten your arm

Your shooting arm didn't straighten. Reach up and finish with a straight elbow.

  • Release higher

The release was low. Shoot up and out, high above your forehead.

  • Hold the follow-through

You dropped your hand straight away. Hold your wrist up, fingers pointing at the rim, for a second.

  • Stay balanced

You fell backwards as you shot. Go straight up and land where you took off.

  • More arc

The ball came off flat. Push it up higher so it drops down into the hoop.
