Fadeaway

Jump slightly backwards as you shoot, keeping your shoulders square to the rim.

Set up your camera

Phone at hip height, about 3 metres away, filming you from the side. Keep the ball in the picture too.

Your whole body, head to feet, needs to be in the picture. The coach will remind you if it can't see you.

How to do it

  1. 1Square your shoulders to the hoop.
  2. 2Bend your knees to load up.
  3. 3Jump up and slightly backwards.
  4. 4Release high with a straight arm, shoulders still facing the rim.
  5. 5Hold the follow-through as you land.

What the coach watches for

  • Bend your knees

You shot with straight legs. Dip your knees and push up, because the power comes from your legs.

  • Straighten your arm

Your shooting arm didn't straighten. Reach up and finish with a straight elbow.

  • Release higher

The release was low. Shoot up and out, high above your forehead.

  • Hold the follow-through

You dropped your hand straight away. Hold your wrist up, fingers pointing at the rim, for a second.

  • More arc

The ball came off flat. Push it up higher so it drops down into the hoop.
