Set up your camera

Phone at hip height, about 3 metres away, filming you from the side. Keep the ball in the picture too.

Your whole body, head to feet, needs to be in the picture. The coach will remind you if it can't see you.

How to do it

  1. 1Watch the ball closely as it drops towards you.
  2. 2Swing your kicking leg back with your knee bent.
  3. 3Point your toe down and lock your ankle.
  4. 4Keep your knee over the ball and hit it before it lands.
  5. 5Follow through towards the goal to keep the shot low.

What the coach watches for

  • Swing your leg back

Your backswing was short. Bend your knee and bring your kicking leg further back.

  • Lean over the ball

You leaned back as you struck it, which sends the ball high. Get your chest over the ball.

  • Follow through

Your kicking leg stopped at the ball. Keep swinging through towards the target.

  • Strike through the ball

The ball came off slowly. Lock your ankle and strike through the middle of it.

  • Keep it down

The shot flew high. Keep your knee over the ball and strike the middle.
