Set up your camera

Phone at hip height, about 3 metres away, filming you from the side. Keep the ball in the picture too.

Your whole body, head to feet, needs to be in the picture. The coach will remind you if it can't see you.

How to do it

  1. 1Start your run-up at an angle to the ball.
  2. 2Plant your standing foot beside the ball, a little behind it.
  3. 3Swing your kicking leg back with your knee bent.
  4. 4Lean over the ball and strike its side with the inside of your foot.
  5. 5Follow through across your body so the ball bends.

What the coach watches for

  • Swing your leg back

Your backswing was short. Bend your knee and bring your kicking leg further back.

  • Lean over the ball

You leaned back as you struck it, which sends the ball high. Get your chest over the ball.

  • Follow through

Your kicking leg stopped at the ball. Keep swinging through towards the target.

  • Strike through the ball

The ball came off slowly. Lock your ankle and strike through the middle of it.
