Set up your camera

Phone at hip height, about 3 metres away, filming you from the side.

Your whole body, head to feet, needs to be in the picture. The coach will remind you if it can't see you.

How to do it

  1. 1Start light, with just the bar or a light weight.
  2. 2Stand with the bar over the middle of your feet.
  3. 3Push your hips back and bend your knees to grip the bar.
  4. 4Keep your chest up, back flat and hips higher than your knees.
  5. 5Push the floor away with your legs and stand up tall.

What the coach watches for

  • Bend your knees

Your legs stayed straight. Bend your knees to reach the bar and push the floor away.

  • Hips higher

You squatted the weight. Keep your hips higher than your knees, because this is a hinge.

  • Chest up

Your chest dropped too low. Keep it up and your back flat.
