Set up your camera

Phone side-on to you, where point would stand, about 4 metres away at hip height. Shadow bat: no ball needed.

Your whole body, head to feet, needs to be in the picture. The coach will remind you if it can't see you.

How to do it

  1. 1Start in your stance and lift your bat.
  2. 2Imagine a slow, spinning ball landing in front of you.
  3. 3Take a big step forward and bend your front knee.
  4. 4Drop your back knee to the ground, head over your front knee.
  5. 5Swing the bat across and finish with your hands high.

What the coach watches for

  • Lift your bat

Your backlift was low. Pick the bat up towards your back shoulder before you play.

  • Head over your front knee

Your head was hanging back. Lead with your head so it's over your front knee.

  • Bend your front knee

Your front leg stayed straight. Bend that knee and lean into the shot.

  • Bigger stride

Your stride was short. Step right out to where the ball pitches.

  • Get down low

You stayed too high. Go down on one knee so your head is over the ball.

  • Finish high

Your follow-through stopped short. Finish with your hands high, pointing where the ball went.
