Set up your camera

Phone side-on to you, where point would stand, about 4 metres away at hip height. Shadow bat: no ball needed.

Your whole body, head to feet, needs to be in the picture. The coach will remind you if it can't see you.

How to do it

  1. 1Start in your stance and lift your bat.
  2. 2Imagine a short ball bouncing up high.
  3. 3Step back and across towards your stumps.
  4. 4Stay tall, up on your toes.
  5. 5Hold the bat straight under your eyes with soft hands and stop it.

What the coach watches for

  • Lift your bat

Your backlift was low. Pick the bat up towards your back shoulder before you play.

  • Stay tall

You crouched down. Get up tall on your toes so you're on top of the bounce.

  • No follow-through

Defence should stop the ball dead. Soft hands, and keep the bat down by your pad.
